The Story
India’s private sector is expected to invest approximately ₹7.5 lakh crore in nuclear power, contributing 30 GW towards the country’s 100 GW capacity target by 2047, according to Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Ajit Kumar Mohanty.
India currently has around 9 GW of installed nuclear capacity, with another 13 GW across 17 reactors under implementation. Private companies are evaluating reactor technologies, fuel supplies and partnerships, while small modular reactors are being explored to meet captive power needs in energy-intensive industries such as steel and cement.
The planned expansion could create opportunities for valve and actuator manufacturers supplying critical flow-control systems for nuclear applications. For the industry, this highlights the potential value of strengthening nuclear-grade engineering, quality assurance and qualification capabilities.
